Steve Gonzalez
Steve Gonzalez is the Senior Vice President of Government Relations at Career Education Colleges and Universities (CECU). In this role, his responsibilities include overseeing and managing CECU’s Federal government relations. He is responsible for overseeing and advocating CECU’s public policy positions with the White House, the Administration, and Congress. He also oversees CECU’s political engagement. Before joining CECU, Steve served from 2015 to 2019 as a senior policy advisor to the House Budget Committee, most recently under Chairman and Ranking Member Rep. Steve Womack (R-AK). In this role, Steve served as the top advisor to Committee leadership and members on implementing an $800B federal budget for several federal agencies. Steve also served as the principal liaison between the Committee and executive branch officials, House and Senate committees, House of Representatives leadership and offices, and industry representatives on related policies within his portfolio area.
Previously, Steve served as an Assistant Director at the American Legion. In this role, he managed and developed strategic plans and policies for veterans' education, licensing and certification, and apprenticeship programs with state and local agencies, Congress, business, and higher education partners. He also successfully supported and subsequently aided in the passage of Executive Order 13607 (Establishing Principles of Excellence for Educational Institutions Serving Service Members, Veterans, Spouses, and Other Family Members) and H.R. 4155 (Public Law 112-147; Veteran Skills to Jobs Act). Steve is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, where he served honorably for 8 years. He has also worked on two political campaigns in New York. He received his B.A. in International Studies from Queens University of Charlotte, North Carolina. Originally from Brooklyn, New York, Steve lives in Northern Virginia with his wife, Rachel, and their son, Cameron. |
