After retiring from the military after 20 years of service, Chad Littler decided to follow his dream of driving a tractor trailer to see the country. To accomplish this goal, he turned to National Tractor Trailer School.

Chad enrolled in NTTS’s 602 hour, PTDI Certified Advanced Commercial Driver Course.  To complete his training, he drove 80 miles every day for 18 weeks, and successfully graduated from the program in June 2015. He is now employed by Gypsum Express of Baldwinsville, NY.

Even better, he now has a companion to keep him company on the long drives: his wife, Mary Littler. Mary, inspired by Chad’s success and travels in his tractor trailer career, decided to enroll in the same program at NTTS to become a driver as well. Read their full story here.

“I think it’s probably one of the best things you can do in the trucking industry today,” said Harry Kowalchyk, president of NTTS, Inc, in a recent NTTS article about the couple. “With two incomes, you could make over $100,000 a year. Plus, their communication as a couple increases.”

The team will enjoy travel, stability and income as tractor trailer drivers as a result of their NTTS program training, and are an important part of filling the skills gap in transportation, distribution, and logistics. As reported in a CECU Shortage of Skills release, the Bureau of Labor Statistics projects an 11% increase in jobs in this industry by 2022. With freight size expected to increase by 29% by 2026, providing students with the skills they need to become employed in this industry is crucial. Institutions like NTTS are doing the important job of producing graduates backed by a quality education to respond to the demands of this profession and the nation’s economy. Read more about the skills demand for in transportation, distribution, and logistics here.
