CECU's Steve Gonzalez, Senior Vice President of Government, Military, and Veterans Relations met with Senator Carper's senior staff to discuss the Protect Veterans' Education and Taxpayer Spending Act of 2019 (S. 2857, better known as the Carper bipartisan 90/10 compromise). The discussion revolved around finding a potential waiver compromise to S. 2857 and identifying time for Senator Carper and his senior staff to meet with key CECU member schools that would be negatively impacted by S. 2857 without amending the bill to include a 90/10 waiver.

Former Delaware State University Officer Sentenced To 15 Months’ Incarceration In Federal Bribery Case
David C. Weiss, United States Attorney for the District of Delaware, announced today that Crystal Martin, former Associate Registrar at Delaware State University, was sentenced to 15 months’ incarceration today by the Honorable Richard G. Andrews, United States District Judge for the District of Delaware.

At the start of 2020, Unitek College added an eighth campus to their roster in Reno, Nevada. In late February, Unitek received nursing-board approval to offer the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and Practical Nursing (PN) programs to the Reno community.

Borough of Manhattan Community College’s Early Childhood Center offers a lifeline for student parents, with high-quality childcare available daytime and evenings, including on weekends. Parents can visit their children anytime, and thanks to a sliding scale and multiple funding streams, none pay more than $35 a week.
 
Western Governors U offers $125K in scholarships to displaced Concordia students – Education Dive
Western Governors University, a nonprofit online institution, is offering scholarships to as many as 50 students affected by the planned closure of Concordia University-Portland, in Oregon.
 
Purdue online students can now graduate in VR – The Verge
Purdue University Global will let some graduates join its 2020 commencement ceremony through virtual reality. Around 75 students will get a Google Cardboard-style VR viewer and watch the ceremony through a 360-degree camera feed.
