Arlington, Va. -- Career Education Colleges and Universities (CECU) recognizes and celebrates tomorrow's 156th anniversary of "Juneteenth", commemorating the June 19th, 1865 announcement that, in accordance with the Emancipation Proclamation, “all slaves are free.” CECU President and CEO Dr. Jason Altmire had this to say in response to the passage of the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act, establishing June 19 as a federal holiday: "CECU is proud to support this bipartisan action to bring long-overdue national recognition to this pivotal moment in our nation's history. The June 19 holiday will serve as a continual reminder of our nation's dedication to the protection of human rights and equality for all." CECU's offices will be closed on June 18th, 2021, and each June 19th thereafter as an annual day of observance. ### Please direct media inquiries to Rachel Tripp, Director of Communications, at Rachel.Tripp@career.org
