APSCU Statement on House Committee on Education and the Workforce Markup

7/10/2014

Washington, D.C., July 10, 2014—Following the House Education and the Workforce Committee’s passage of three higher education bills, Steve Gunderson, president and CEO of the Association of Private Sector Colleges and Universities (APSCU), released the following statement:
“After years of partisan disagreements, it is heartening to see a strong and bipartisan start to reauthorization of the Higher Education Act in the House of Representatives.

“We are optimistic that with the House’s leadership, both chambers will focus on the important work of encouraging innovation in postsecondary education, increasing student access and opportunity and improving transparency.

“We applaud the bipartisan leadership from Chairman John Kline and Ranking Member George Miller, and the hard work of the legislation’s cosponsors.

“By focusing on initiatives to help all students at all institutions, they set the right baseline for reauthorization. We are also encouraged by the important focus on competency-based learning, initiatives like this will help students accelerate their programs of study and save time and money.”
