APSCU Applauds Introduction of "The Supporting Academic Freedom through Regulatory Relief Act"2/13/2015
Washington, DC, February 13, 2015 – Following the introduction of "The Supporting Academic Freedom through Regulatory Relief Act" H.R. 970, APSCU President and CEO Steve Gunderson, released the following statement: "We appreciate that leaders in Congress recognize the U.S. Department of Education's out of control approach to regulations and seek to stop this over indulgence until reauthorization of the Higher Education Act. A recent Senate Task Force noted, the U.S. Department of Education's 'increasing appetite for regulation' results in problematic regulations, which are unnecessarily voluminous and too often ambiguous, creating compliance difficulties for institutions.
"This legislation sends a clear message that 'legislation by regulation' will not be tolerated by the Congress and that instead of working independent of Congress and students, educators, parents and accreditors, the Department should collaborate to create policies and produce information that help students, and their families, make educated decisions about their future."
