Regulation
Federal agencies, including the U.S. Department of Education, continually create, change, and enforce regulations that impact institutions of higher education.
CECU actively participates in the federal rulemaking process to ensure that our member institutions and the students they serve have a voice in the regulatory process. This includes offering public comments, nominating individuals to serve on negotiated rulemaking committees (which are required prior to the promulgation of any regulations impacting Title IV, Federal Student Aid programs), attending meetings with federal and non-federal negotiators, submitting comments to proposed regulations, and meeting with the White House Domestic Policy Council and Office of Management and Budget.
After federal agencies promulgate new regulations, CECU publishes a variety of helpful resources to assist members to comply with new requirements. Resources include detailed analyses, webinars (often co-hosted with the federal agency responsible for the new regulations), one-pagers, and templates.
