“CECU supports the long overdue review of this important issue, as it highlights the need to improve processes at the IRS and Department of Education. Like the congressional leaders who requested this report, we are committed to putting students and educational outcomes first when ownership conversions occur."
Altmire continued, "The higher education landscape is shifting, as market disruptors continue to develop innovative practices to better serve students. With these disruptions, we will continue to see ownership conversions and innovative partnerships that require approval by regulators. We must have confidence that the Department and IRS are reviewing these deals carefully and that they continue to monitor for compliance after the transactions have closed. We look forward to working with congressional and regulatory leaders to implement these reforms in a way that protects students and guarantees accountability across all schools in all sectors.”

Arlington, Va. – Today Career Education Colleges and Universities (CECU) announced the hiring of two new senior staffers, John Huston and Rachel Tripp. The additions are a significant step in the association’s efforts to ramp up its government relations and communications capabilities in response to new regulatory and legislative challenges faced by their members.
Over the past several weeks, CECU leaders have been involved in multiple discussions with high-level officials within President-elect Joe Biden's transition team. As part of these discussions, we were asked to submit a letter outlining CECU’s priorities and policy recommendations for the new administration’s Department of Education. After soliciting the views of the membership, we crafted the attached letter, which was sent to the Biden office on Monday.

In December 2020, CECU released "Compliance and Best Practices in Student Inquiry Generation: A Guide for Schools", created by a taskforce of CECU. This report represents one of the most comprehensive studies ever produced by CECU. In some ways it is also the longest in terms of time. Late in 2017, CECU brought together a taskforce to begin the work of creating Best Practices in Leads Generation.
