Career Education PAC & CECU PAC
Both CECU PAC and Career Education PAC (super PAC) were created to influence elections and support bipartisan candidates; however, CECU employs these PACs in different ways to achieve our goals. While the two PACs seem to have similar roles and interests, they are subject to different sets of rules and regulations.
The CECU PAC was created to represent or support bipartisan candidates and direct the collective resources to these candidates who support proprietary institutions and the students they serve. Unlike the super PAC, the CECU PAC can directly contribute to a candidate but is limited to $5,000 per election. Whereas the Career Education PAC cannot directly contribute to parties or candidates but can raise unlimited funds from individuals and corporations and spend the funds on mailers and digital and tv advertising. |
Career Education PAC (super PAC)
CECU has created a campaign account for independent expenditures in federal campaigns. Known in the common parlance as a “Super PAC” it can be used to make unlimited expenditures related to federal races, but is not coordinated with campaigns. Unlike traditional PACs, corporate contributions are allowed and are not publicly disclosed. There is no limit to how much a person or entity may contribute. To maximize its effectiveness, CECU plans to use the Super PAC to help candidates who support our schools and students, with contributions focused on campaigns that are toss up races close to the finish line in November. We encourage interested schools to join the many others that have contributed towards this effort, as the coming midterm elections are critically important.
CECU PAC
The CECU PAC is the federally registered, non-partisan political action committee of Career Education Colleges and Universities. The PAC enables individuals, including employees of CECU member institutions, to contribute financial support to CECU’s mission and advance our legislative and regulatory agenda.
*Note: Corporate Firm members of CECU may grant prior approval to only one national trade association PAC per calendar year. However, granting prior approval for the CECU PAC does not preclude employees of the Firm from contributing to local or state PACs, national member and ideological PACs, or the Firm’s own federal PAC. Eligible employees include those with executive, managerial or senior administrative responsibilities.

Who may participate in the CECU PAC?The Federal Election Commission has determined that a trade association may solicit only the restricted class of member institutions and allied member companies, i.e., their executive and administrative personnel, for contributions to the PAC. However, before the PAC may solicit, CECU must obtain written authorization (a signed Prior Approval Form) from the member institution’s principal CECU member. Please contact Deepti Taneja who will assist you in obtaining a Prior Approval Form.
