West Coast University Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) graduate Josiah is thankful to be alive.

While serving in the military, Josiah was in a situation that almost ended his life but thanks to the hard work of his nurses, he is still here today. His time in the hospital gave him the drive and inspiration to become a nurse himself.

“The doctors had actually given up on me and told my parents I wasn’t going to make it,” Josiah said. “It was only the nurses that were coming in and taking care of me and telling my parents, ‘everything was going to be okay.’ That drove me to be one of those nurses that cares and shows compassion.”

Shawn is driven to make an impact in the lives of everyone he meets. Whether serving homeless individuals on the street or at his job as a pediatric nurse, Shawn lives his life for others.

“I strongly feel that the reason I’m here, is to help others,” he said. “I’m 40 years old. I worked my tail off to get where I am now and am a testament to the fact that it’s never too late to change your life and do what you want to do.”
