Episode 28 - Reimagining the American Apprenticeship System

In this episode, Dr. Jason Altmire speaks to Dr. Robert Lerman, a leading expert in apprenticeships, about the challenges of the American apprenticeship system and how to make it more efficient in light of the growing trend of young people foregoing a traditional postsecondary education.

Dr. Lerman is an Institute Fellow in the Center on Labor, Human Services, and Population at the Urban Institute. He is also the founder of the American Institute for Innovative Apprenticeship and is the Chair of Apprenticeships for America. Together, Dr. Lerman and Dr. Altmire discuss how to improve the American apprenticeship system, how other countries approach apprenticeships, and the need for third-party assessments of the outcomes of apprentices.
