December 7, 2012 Contacts: APSCU Responds To November Jobs ReportWashington, D.C. – Former Congressman Steve Gunderson, the president and chief executive officer of the Association of Private Sector Colleges and Universities (APSCU) today released the following statement in response to the unemployment report issued by the Bureau of Labor Statistics detailing 146,000 jobs created in November and unemployment at 7.7 percent. "Any sign that the economy is recovering and Americans are getting back to work is a positive development, but there is still work to be done. By 2020, there will be 50 million jobs available – 23 million new jobs and 32 million replacements for retiring baby boomers — and 65 percent of all jobs will require some level of postsecondary education and skills. "While these job numbers represent incremental progress, private sector colleges and universities are working right now to give students the skills and training they need to enter a changing workforce, close our nation's widening skills gap, and create the long-term, sustainable progress that will get our economy growing even faster and promote greater American competitiveness."
