AMCA creates and distributes certification exams to the allied healthcare industry through approved schools and organizations. The purpose of our certification exams are to verify that each successful exam candidate has proven that they are knowledgeable in their specific subject matter. Certification by definition means, "to attest as being true or as represented as meeting a standard." It is through a set of standards that the American Medical Certification Association has developed each of its exams.

The National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) is an independent certification organization that has tested more than 380,000 candidates since 1989. Its medical assistant and phlebotomist certification programs hold accreditation by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies. NCCT also certifies surgical technologists, patient care technicians, medical office assistants, insurance biller and coders, ECG technicians and postsecondary instructors through a variety of academic and experiential paths of qualification.
