Disability Issues

ADA/Section 504

Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and Title I of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) require that no otherwise qualified person with a disability shall be denied a benefit or opportunity (employment or education) or be excluded from participation solely on the basis of that disability. If a student or employee with a disability is otherwise qualified, the institution may be required to make a reasonable accommodation for that disability. Whether an accommodation is reasonable depends on the full circumstances, and not simply on whether it would cost more than, for example, a student's tuition. The following websites provide guidance on employment and participation in programs at institutions of education. Please feel free to contact Nancy Broff for information and assistance if you have specific questions about these requirements.
