Nancy Broff joined
Dickstein Shapiro LLP in 2007 as counsel in the
Firm’s Corporate & Finance Practice.
AREAS OF CONCENTRATION
Ms. Broff focuses her practice on postsecondary education issues,
representing participants in change of control and corporate finance
transactions involving postsecondary education companies, and counseling
clients on matters related to the U.S. Department of Education,
regulatory compliance, accreditation, and state and federal legislation.
She also advises clients on matters including student financial aid and
institutional administration; governance; and whistleblower and other
private litigation.
PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND
Prior to joining Dickstein Shapiro, Ms. Broff was with the Career
College Association (CCA) for 15 years, for most of that time as the
Association’s General Counsel. In this capacity, Ms.
Broff represented the postsecondary education industry in dealings with
the U.S. Department of Education, including negotiated rulemaking
proceeding. She also counseled schools specifically on matters of
regulatory and legal compliance. Ms. Broff advised the Association on
legislative issues relating to reauthorization of the Higher Education
Act of 1965, student financial assistance, distance education, and
transfer of academic credit. In addition, she served as counsel to the
Imagine America Foundation.
CCA ACTIVITIES
For the 2007-08 year, Ms. Broff participated on the Convention
committee, Professional Development committee, and Legislative Advisory
Committee.
SPEAKING ENGAGEMENTS
Ms. Broff is a frequent speaker on issues related to federal student
financial aid law and regulations. She has presented at CCA conventions,
the CCA Leadership Institute and Senior Executive Management seminars,
the Education Industry Finance & Investment Summit, the NCHELP
Winter Meeting, the 2006 Drinker Biddle/LaSalle Bank Higher Education
symposium, and state and regional career college meetings.
EDUCATION
Ms. Broff received her B.A. from the University of Rochester and her
J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School.
