CCA Newsletter September 04, 2009 Policy Perspectives PLUS Loan Denials (09/04/09) According to a recent analysis done by Mark Kantrowitz of FinAid.org, Parent PLUS Loan denials are two times higher in the Federal Family Education Loan Program (42%) then in Direct Loan Program (21%) in the 2007-2008 academic year. CCA Commends CoARC for Revised Accreditation Standards (09/04/09) CCA President and CEO Harris Miller sent a letter to Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) Executive Director Tom Smalling commending CoARC for the revisions contained in the second draft of the Accreditation Standards for the Profession of Respiratory Care, allowing nationally accredited institutions to continue to serve as “sponsoring institutions.” Transfer of Credit Discussed by Tennessee Legislators (09/04/09) Earlier this week, the Tennessee Joint Education Oversight Committee held a hearing on HB 1222, which states “accepting institutions shall not discriminate in the transfer of credits based solely on the accreditor of the sending institution unless that accreditor is not recognized by the United States Department of Education.” Plans and Programs CCA President Works With Gov.
