President Obama has succeeded in making a lot of things “hot” in the public perception since the start of his Presidency, simply by bringing them into headlines. The Portuguese water dog, the Blackberry, and family dinner night are examples.

His plans are also important for bringing higher education—especially professional, career, and technical education—to the forefront of the national dialogue.
